We've all heard the expression "crazy cat lady." But how do you tell if you *are* that crazy cat lady (or man)? Follow these easy steps to find out!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A love of cats
  • Several pet cats

Do you have three cats or more? Everyone knows that what one cat doesn't think of, the others will; having more than 3 cats is a recipe for mischief. Anyone that owns this many cats must be willing to put up with lots of trouble, and is surely crazy.

  2. Step 2

Do you consider your cats your children? If you refer to your furry friends as "the kids," or "my sons/daughters," and if you carry pictures of your cats in your wallet, you are probably a crazy cat person.

  3. Step 3

Do you talk to your cats like they are people? Crazy cat people hold long, complex conversations with their cats, expecting them to understand every word.

  4. Step 4

Do your cats talk to YOU? Sometimes people brag that their cats can talk. For instance, my cats can say "Mama," "hello," and "I don't know." This would definitely make me a crazy cat person. (Usually the crazy cat people are the only ones who can understand their cats.)

  5. Step 5

Do you dress your cats up? Cats naturally have fur, so they probably do not like to wear sweaters, wigs, or any other type of accessories. Making them wear these types of things surely makes you a crazy cat person.

  6. Step 6

Do you try to modify your cats' behavior? Some people believe that they can teach their cats to do tricks and stop misbehaving. To take it one step further, people also think that it is effective to punish their cats when they don't follow the rules. In my house, if the cats meow and beg all through dinner, they do not get any leftovers. Only crazy cat people are, well, crazy enough to think that they can control their cats.

on 2/14/2009 Thanks for this entertaining article. Once I had 3 cats and had to really clamp down on myself not to get more! On a more solemn note, of course this can be a very real problem for some people. If someone has so many animals that they can't provide good medical care for them, have trouble feeding them well, can't clean up after them, etc. this is a hoarding behavior that may require help such as removing some animals and counselling the pet owner. People sometimes start out rescuing animals and lose control of the situation to the extent that the animals may need to be rescued from them. For some reason cats are often the animal that is hoarded, although of course it can be dogs or birds, etc. By the way, thanks for your comment on my article about losing weight for charity.
