Create a Mail Filter In Hotmail

We all know how fast email can get out of control especially when we haven't checked in for a few days, with all the spam and random things we sign up for it gets really tedious and time consuming to organize and sift through the volume of mail you receive everyday.

Now this is only if you have one email account, multiply that by two or three email accounts and it can be a full time job just reading through titles in your email.

With that said, one of the most popular email host out there is hotmail. It's also one of the most spammed email providers out there, however if you're like me, I've had my hotmail account forever and it's hard to end that relationship.

The next following paragraphs will show you how to quickly manage your Hotmail accounts with a simple mail filter, you would be amazed how much time this saves you, in addition setting mail filters will make reading email fun again.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The first thing you need to do is sign into your hotmail account and click on OPTIONS. From there a drop down menu appears. Scroll down to the bottom of the menu and Click on MORE OPTIONS

  2. Step 2

You should be directed to a hotmail options control panel that allows you to customize your hotmail experience. Under the heading CUSTOMIZE YOUR MAIL, Click on the link that says AUTOMATICALLY SORT EMAILS TO FOLDERS. This is assuming you have created folders to put your emails in.

If you don't have any existing folders creating them is simple. On the left column beneath the Windows live icon, you will see a link to MANAGE FOLDERS. Click on that link.

This should bring you to a folder directory. In the top left hand corner there should be a link for new. Click on that link. From there all you have to do is name your folder and save.

  3. Step 3

Once you have folders created go back to the MORE OPTIONS LINK and choose AUTOMATICALLY SORT EMAILS TO FOLDERS.

From there you will be given an option to create NEW FILTER. Click on that link. This will bring you to another page that allows you to select how you want that particular filter to behave and where you want it to go.

I generally create filters for spam from people I don't know and automatically delete it that way I can mitigate junk email automatically, which saves me time and the possibility of accidentally opening email containing a virus.

Protect yourself do the work now and you won't have such a huge problem cleaning up later on.
