Update your look inexpensively with a few key pieces

It's an undeniable fact, but keeping up your physical appearance is important, even in trying economic times. Updating your wardrobe and hairstyle, for instance, is a great way to not only look better but feel better as well. A new and updated look is a sure-fire way to lift your spirits. Read on to learn how to update your look on a budget.

Instructions
  1. Step 1
The 80s are over. Update your look on the cheap!

Determine where your look could use some updating. Have you been wearing the same hairstyle for a few years now? Maybe it's time for change then. Are your clothes a little outdated? Then it maybe time to invest in a few new wardrobe staples. Is your makeup straight out of the 80s? Consider a trip to the drugstore for some more modern shades.

  2. Step 2
Get your hairstyle pics printed at CVS inexpensively

After you've determined what could use some updating in your look, put your plan into action. If you would like to change your hairstyle, look around on the internet for some pictures of styles you like and that are achievable for your hair type. Upload your pictures to an online retailer like CVS or Walmart, and choose to have them printed and picked up at the store. I do this every time I change my hairstyle, and it's far less expensive than purchasing a hairstyle magazine.

  3. Step 3
Consider a bob haircut for an updated style

A trip to the salon can certainly burn a hole in your wallet. If you're feeling the money crunch, consider visiting a beauty school instead of the salon. There are many talented stylists learning the tricks of the trade at various beauty schools, and sometimes you can get your hair cut for less than ten dollars! Best of all, nothing is done without the stylist first telling the senior manager/educator and receiving his or her consent. There is really nothing to fear.

  4. Step 4
Stick with neutral makeup for a polished look

Now that you've got a fresh new hairstyle goin' on, consider updating your makeup if needed. Something as simple as a new lip color or mascara can really lift your spirits. You don't have to drop a ton of cash on department store makeup brands to look great! Walmart and other inexpensive retailers offer quality makeup at affordable prices. Stick with neutral colors that compliment your skin tone for the most polished and up to date look.

  5. Step 5
    Get rid of those

Get rid of those "mom jeans" and get yourself a pair of boot cuts

Your wardrobe is the icing on the cake. Again, you don't have to spend a lot of money on your clothing to look fabulous. I find that Target offers affordable and modern clothing. Invest in a pair of boot-cut jeans for the most modern look. Boot-cut jeans will lengthen your legs and make you appear thinner. Invest in a pair of classic black high heels or high heeled boots. Target offers a great selection of shoes at affordable prices. Go for shoes that are at least slightly pointed at the toes. This will make your legs appear longer and leaner.

  6. Step 6
Black high heels are always in style

Visit other inexpensive retailers such as Marshall's and T.J. Max. These stores offer department store clothing at dramatically reduced prices. Invest in a pair of black boot-cut dress pants for work and perhaps a matching blazer. Stick with pieces that can be interchangeable and worn with many different pieces in order to maximize your wardrobe. For instance, dress pants may be worn with more casual tops to dress things up a bit for dinner on a Friday night. Classic high heels are sure to dress up a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. The more pieces that you purchase which are interchangeable with your existing wardrobe, the less you will have to spend on clothing.
