Shopping for vegan-friendly clothing is relatively easily, but finding vegan shoes can be a whole different story. While some brands have a vegan friendly shoe here and there, it can take some effort to figure out just which ones are. Thankfully, several online stores cater to meeting your vegan shoe-buying needs. Here are just a few:

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Vegan Essentials - http://www.veganessentials.com/ - My favorite site for vegan shopping. They have a number of different brands and styles of vegan shoes, and they ship fast. It's easy to see if your size is in stock and they have great customer service.

  2. Step 2

Moo Shoes - http://www.mooshoes.com/ - May be one of the best known vegan-friendly shoe retailers online. They have great variety, and I usually start here. Unfortunately, I haven't had much luck ordering from them - even though my size was listed, it was out of stock. In most cases, if they're out, the size isn't listed. To be sure, call first to make sure they have your size - their customer service people are very helpful. If you're in NYC, visit their store.

  3. Step 3

Pangea: The Vegan Store - http://www.veganstore.com/ - Not as many choices as the first two, but they ship fast. They also have a store in Rockville, MD.

  4. Step 4

Vegetarian Shoes and Bags - http://www.vegetarianshoesandbags.com - They seem to have a number of brands the other sites don't carry. For men's shoes, they seem to have more less expensive dress shoes.

  5. Step 5

Vegan Shoes - http://www.veganshoes.com/ - How could I not include a site named Vegan Shoes? With lot's of clogs and clog-like shoes, they may not be to everyone's taste, but if this is the style you're looking for, start here.

  6. Step 6

Vegetarian Shoes - http://www.vegetarian-shoes.co.uk/ - Vegetarian Shoes are carried by most of the other stores listed here. However, they have a lot more styles and colors than are carried by the U.S. retailers, and you can order direct from them. The disadvantage, they're in England, so shipping isn't cheap.

Tips & Warnings
  • Many vegan shoes are manufactured in U.K/European sizing, make sure you order the right size.
  • Read the retailer's size-guide. Some shoes are sized big.
  • When you receive your shoes, try them on wearing socks or a nylons (depending on the kind of shoe).
  • Only take a test walk on carpet to avoid wear on the soles. Most retailers reserve the right to refuse a return if the soles shoe signs of outside wear.

on 2/15/2009 Excellent advice for vegans! It can be so hard to find shoes that are not made out of leather or suede. Thanks! 5*
