Things You'll Need:
- to prepare for any type of appearance in front of an audience
-
Step 1
Determine whether your stage fright is because of a previous mishap or just general anxiety. Sometimes what you may think is stage fright is the normal reaction to being anguish you may feel in your stomach and not fear at all. The mere excitement can feel close to nervousness.
-
Step 2
Terry Prince weekly performer at Santa Monica BoardwalkA great way to loosen up and keep stage fright at bay is to have a someone familiar to you in the audience. Even if they are not in the front row, you know you have their support and energy to draw from. Always invite people you know to places you must speak or perform in front of an audience if and when you can.
-
Step 3
USE LAUGHTER. Be able to laugh at yourself for the purpose of the audience if you make a mistake. Draw to it, not away from it. Also consider adding levity when you can to break the tension of the audience. They are more apprehensive then you are on the stage. Chances are they are wondering if their time is going to be spent well and this makes them actually stressed. The more relaxed you and they are, the less chances of stage fright.
-
Step 4
Open Mic at St. Nick's PubFORGET about whether everyone will enjoy your presentation. Everyone will not be completely ecstatic ever, but everyone will always like something about whatever it is you are being to the stage. Remember that you are in control of what happens on stage. You already have all of the support of the audience, that's why they are there. They are not there in hopes you are going to fail or falter. They are there because they know you will give them what they want. That's empowering.
-
Step 5
NEVER let the money you will or will not be making be a concern of yours while on stage. For instance, if the crowd is not what you anticipated, think about how you are about how you the people who are there will end up by the time you finish dedicated fans. Keep your concentration on doing the best presentation you can and getting the message across of your performance.
-
Step 6
Don't think of the terms of how big the place or stage you will present at. It is the same attitude with simply a different place that will keep you grounded. Remember the previous tips and just think of it amplified with support, well wishes and a crowd that is anguish for you to add a moment of glee to their lives. You have the talents and trade to do so and that's why they have sought you out. Relax.
-
Step 7
Real stage fright is that which immobilizes you. If you simply can not move yourself literally out of the seat to go to your booking or in front of an audience, this is an emotional disorder that need to be dealt with on a deeper level. Seek professional help and direction if your livelihood is dependent on being on stage or in front of large audiences.
