The key to finding the perfect prom or pageant dress is to determine your body type and skin tone, then go from there.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet connection
  • Person who can do alterations.
  • Department store make-up professional.
  1. Step 1

First do some research and decide if you are a Pear shape, Hourglass shape, Banana Shape or Apple shape. Then measure yourself at the bust, waist, hips, and length.

  2. Step 2

Next, decide if you want a full-length floor gown or a shorter tea-length gown, etc. Have someone do a color analysis on your skin to help determine your skin tone and what colors most suite that tone. If you choose carefully, you can find a dress that may be worn more than once. This is a good investment.

  3. Step 3

Finally, visit several sites and do price matching. There are sites that have dresses for resale and you can save a great deal of money. Be prepared to have the dress you choose altered. All people are not the same size, so dresses are made to be a "close" fit. Always check and ask the measurements before ordering the dress.
