Building an Outdoor Metal Fire Pit
Outdoor metal fire pits are a perfect addition to any backyard. Fire pits are a great place for quiet conversations and relaxation after a busy day. They also help extend the outdoor season by adding warmth on chilly evenings. Metal fire pits are easy to create and maintain, and the project is almost as fun as relaxing in front of the glow when the pit is complete.

Choose a safe location for your fire pit that does not have overhanging branches or dry vegetation that could catch on fire from sparks or floating embers.

Choose a metal ring size. Artisan Metal Shop has a wide variety of metal fire-pit rings available in a large number of designs. They have three sizes available: 29 inches, 36 inches and 48 inches.

Dig a hole that is 6 inches deep and the same size as the fire ring you have chosen for your fire pit. Use a level to make sure the bottom of the hole is level. so the fire ring will sit properly in it.

Fill the hole with 6 inches of gravel for drainage and safety.

Place the metal fire ring into the hole.

Push some soil up to the edge of the ring to prevent the ring from moving during use.

Tips & Warnings
Always have water available for emergencies. Do not add any material other than wood to your fire. Soak the fire pit thoroughly when finished and turn over all remaining wood, to make sure the fire cannot restart from hot coals when the area is not being monitored.
