Yahoo! Messenger is one of the most popular instant messaging services currently available, and is relatively easy to use and download. The Windows Vista platform can make installing new programs, including Yahoo! Messenger somewhat challenging at times, but installing it on Windows latest platform is actually easier than you might expect.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 500 MB of free space on your hard drive
  1. Step 1

Go to the official Yahoo! Messenger download site (see Resources section for link) and click on the download button on the right side of the page. A pop-up window will appear.

  2. Step 2

Click "OK" on the pop-up window to begin downloading the Yahoo! Messenger installer. When prompted, save the install file on your computer's desktop. It will take a few minutes to download the installer. Once it is finished, the download window will close.

  3. Step 3

Double click on the installer icon on your desktop. This will open an installation window. You will have to follow several prompts in order to accept the Yahoo! Messenger terms of service and customize your installation settings.

  4. Step 4

Enter your Yahoo ID and Password. This is your Yahoo! email address. If you do not already have a Yahoo! email, you may click on the link in the installation window to sign up for one. Once you enter your Yahoo! ID and password, you should be able to sign on to messenger for the first time.

  5. Step 5

Delete the installer. This is the file that you originally downloaded to your desktop. You will see another icon on your desktop, which is the shortcut to the program. You do not need to delete this.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are getting multiple security warnings from Vista during your installation, close all of your Internet browser windows and try again. You will need to keep your connection online for the installation to finish.
