Printers are like cereal, they come in many varieties. There are so many brands and models of printers, it truly boggles the mind. Most current printer models are either laser or inkjet printers. Laser printers are a bit more expensive, so people buying a printer for the home opt for inkjets. Inkjets need ink like squirrels need nuts; it is essential to their functioning. But how do you remove the ink cartridges to replace them?

From Quick Guide: The Perfect Printer for You
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Turn on the printer. Open the main lid or hatch. Printers come in many shapes and sizes. Look for the main compartment where you think the ink cartridges might be. If you need help, consult the manufacturer's webpage (See resources for popular printer manufacturers.)

  2. Step 2

Press the lever to open the cartridge housing. Many but not all cartridges are encased in a cartridge housing.

  3. Step 3

Pull on the cartridge slowly, in an up-and/or-down and outward way. It shouldn't take much effort. If there is a problem removing the cartridge, consult the manufacturer. Do not try to pry or force it out, as this might damage your printer.

  4. Step 4

Repeat step 3 for every cartridge you need to remove. Some printers have one black and multiple color ink cartridges, while some have one black and one multi-color cartridge.

  5. Step 5

Shut the hatch and or lid, and turn off the printer.
