How to Make Beaded Curtains
If you have a doorway that needs to be closed off visually, but you want something whimsical and airy, then beaded curtains may be the solution. Beaded curtains can be made by those with very little crafting or carpentry experience. It also takes very little equipment and money. All you need is some very inexpensive items from a craft store and a hardware store and a few hours to string beads.
Things You'll Need
- Cup hooks
- Fishing line
- 2 x 2 board
- Large beads
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
- Hammer
- Two paneling nails
Instructions
-
-
1
Cut the 2 x 2 board so that it is the width of the inside of the door frame.
-
2
Screw the cup hooks into the 2-inch side of the board 1 inch apart until the entire boards is covered in a line of cup hooks.
-
-
3
Measure the distance from the floor to the top of the inside of the door frame.
-
4
Cut a piece of fishing line to the measurement in Step 3.
-
5
Thread the end of the fishing line through a bead and tie the end to the line above the bead. This will be your anchor bead that keeps the other beads from sliding off.
-
6
Thread beads onto the string until it is 3 inches from being completely covered.
-
7
Tie the end to the first cup hook.
-
8
Repeat Steps 3 through 6 and tie the string to the next cup hook. Keep repeating these steps until all of the cup hooks have strings of beads on them.
-
9
Nail the 2 x 2 board to the inside of the door frame with the cup hooks and bead going down.

Tips & Warnings
Having family and/or friends help string the beads makes the project go faster.
Make sure that the strings of beads don't tangle while you nail the board to the door frame.
