How to Record a Mini DV to VHS

Mini DV is a format used by most camcorders for recording footage. Unfortunately, this format cannot be played on most common devices unless uploaded to a computer or converted to another format. One such format is VHS. Below is a guide to converting those mini DV tapes to VHS.

Things You'll Need

• Camcorder
• VCR
• TV
• A/V cables or firewire cable

Instructions

1. Connect the camcorder to the VCR with the A/V cable. You can use a firewire cable if your VCR supports firewire. If not, the camcorder would have come with a special A/V cable, maybe with one end being a mini phone jack to plug into the camcorder and standard A/V plugs on the other end to connect to a device. Connect the cord from the appropriate port on the camcorder to the "Video IN" port on the back of the VCR. Then, connect an A/V cable from the "Video OUT" of the VCR to the back of the TV.

2. Turn the VCR on, if it's not on already, and switch it to"AV" or "Video In." This is done by pressing the "Input" button on the remote. After this is done, turn on all the other devices. You should be able to see the images from the mini DV tape on the TV.

3. Find the spot you want to record, press "Play" on the camcorder, and "REC" on the VCR. Once you're finished, press "Stop" on both the camcorder and VCR.
