Switching from Windows XP to Vista can take some time to adjust to, as you reacquaint yourself with the new style. Some people find that the larger Vista icons are easier to see, but for many, they can make the desktop and folders look cluttered. It is easy to return these icons back to their proper size.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Right-click the mouse in any open space on the desktop. You will see a menu pop up.

  2. Step 2

Highlight "View" from the menu. There will be an arrow next to it, which will open another menu when view is highlighted.

  3. Step 3

Click on "Classic Icons" in this second menu. A bullet point will then be placed next to it, and your icons will shrink in size.

  4. Step 4

Change the sizes again, if desired. You can also use the same steps above and select either "medium" or "large" icons from the view menu to make the icons on the desktop easier to see.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you cannot see your desktop because something is covering it, such as a program window, click on the "show desktop" icon in the quick launch bar at the bottom left of the screen. The "show desktop" icon looks like a blue rectangle with a dark bar on the bottom.
