How to Drain a Waveless Waterbed

What makes a water bed wave-less are the fiber baffles inside the vinyl lining of your mattress. While they don't really eliminate motion, they do retard it. However, if the water bed isn't set up properly, the baffles can bunch up and be an uncomfortable intrusion to a good night's sleep. The solution--empty your water bed and start over. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Draining the Waves

    • 1

Begin by unplugging your bed's heater and taking off all bed linens.

    • 2

Unzip and pull back the mattress covering.

    • 3

Unscrew the water bed fill cap and remove the plug.

    • 4

Feed the suction end of an electric pump into your water bed; send the hose end out a window or into a bathtub.

    • 5

Plug the pump in and turn it on.

    • 6

Drain the bed until enough of the water is gone for you to maneuver the bed and its baffle lining. You can refix the baffling and then refill the bed. If you are draining the bed fully, let the pump run until the bed is empty. Be careful not to exhaust the motor by attempting to drain a dry bed.

    • 7

Use gravity to empty the bed by filling your garden hose with water, attaching one end to the water bed and allowing the other to drain out the window. It may be necessary to create the initial suction by breathing in on the hose.
