Select the tie clip to wear that best matches your clothing.

Take your tie clip in hand and pinch it on the hinged side to open it. A tie clip operates much like a clothespin.

Once the clip is open, slide it horizontally across both ends of the tie about two-thirds of the way down your necktie. As you slide the open clip across the tie, you should also capture the dress shirt, inserting the clip just inside the shirt.

Once you have both the tie and shirt lined up in the clip, close the clip by releasing your grip on the clamped edge. When the clip is released, you should check to see that the clip has indeed closed over all three pieces: both ends of the tie and the shirt.

Now you should be able to walk out on a windy day or lean over equipment without worry or risk of your tie getting in the way.
