Threading is an ancient hair removal technique developed in the Middle East and India. Threading is extremely quick and can be used on even the finest, shortest and thinnest hairs. Though it's mostly used to remove unwanted facial hair from the upper lip and eyebrows, threading can also be used to remove hair from anywhere on the body. The method may take some getting used to, but the results are great.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A 24-inch piece of sewing thread
  1. Step 1

Take a 24-inch piece of sewing thread and knot the two loose ends together. You should have a circle of thread if done correctly.

  2. Step 2

Hold the circle of thread with both hands sort of like in a game of cat's cradle. Twist it in the middle to create an "8" shape, and wind, or loop, the thread about 10 times.

  3. Step 3

Place the wound thread around the fingers of both hands. Push the wound-up part of the thread toward one end by widening the fingers of one hand, while simultaneously closing the fingers of the other hand. This step is difficult and will require some practice. Keep pushing the wounded part back and forth until you are doing it easily and it is moving from one side to the other without getting caught.

  4. Step 4

Practice on a part of your body that is easy to reach. The legs are a great starting point for beginners. Place the thread on the portion of your leg you want to remove hair from, and make sure the thread surrounds the hair completely. Move the wound-up part back and forth against the hairs, making sure you catch the hairs in the thread. This motion will remove the hairs directly from the root.

  5. Step 5

After you've practiced on your leg and gotten the hang of it, move on to other areas, such as the upper lip, stomach and eyebrows.

Tips & Warnings
  • Rub some aloe gel on the treated areas to soothe redness. Make sure to put in a lot of practice before trying to thread hair on sensitive areas such as your face.
