1
Choose the beads you will use to make your necklace. Beads come in every shape and size imaginable. You can purchase inexpensive craft beads, jewelry beads and even make your own beads out of resin or clay. The important thing about choosing the beads for a necklace is to make sure the size, shape and color create the necklace you want. Lay the beads out on a tabletop and try out different designs and color combinations until you have exactly what you want.
-
2
Cut a piece of thin elastic the length you want your bead necklace to be. The easiest way to measure the length is to place the elastic around your neck, adjusting it to where you want it to fit. Add an extra 3 inches to allow for tying the elastic to the metal clasp.

3
Tie one end of the thin elastic to one piece of the metal clasp by threading it through the small eye of the clasp. Secure the elastic to the clasp with a knot.
-
4
Thread the loose end of the thin elastic through the eye of the embroidery needle.
-
5
Guide the embroidery needle through each bead in the order of your design. Because the finished product will be the same, it doesn't really matter which end of your bead design you begin with.
-
6
Run the needle through the other metal clasp, remove the elastic from the needle and tie with a knot.
