How to Make Holiday Word Search Games

A holiday word search can be made for any holiday that you choose. Make a holiday related frame shape to outline the word search. If desired you can use a cornucopia, turkey, flag, gift box, or other recognizable holiday shape. Choose themes such as "The Twelve Days of Christmas," Things to be Thankful for, God Bless America or other holiday favorites. You can make a holiday word search for any occasion or celebration.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• Pencil
• Graph paper
• Black ink pen
• Clip art
• Scanner/printer
• Paper

1. Write a list of words that you relate to the holidays. You will want at least 20 words for adults.

2. Take the longest word on your list and enter it on the sheet of graph paper with a pencil. Be sure to enter one upper case letter per square on a line.

3. Continue adding words on the horizontal, vertical and diagonal with some pencilled in backward for an additional challenge.

4. Double check that all of your words are spelled correctly.

5. Write over each pencilled in letter with the black ink pen. Write your word list at the side or bottom of the paper in ink being sure all are spelled correctly. Scan and copy the inked in words on the graph paper. This is your completed answer key.

6. Fill in all remaining empty squares with letters on the graph paper with black ink pen.

7. Decorate the sheet with holiday clip art. Make copies for a party, family fun or your group.
