1
Open the Lexmark Control Panel located on your computer system to begin the installation process of your ink cartridges. To get to this area, click the icon on your desktop or open the "Programs" menu. After opening the Lexmark Control Panel, choose the print cartridge installation option.
-
2
Click the "Install Black Cartridge" or "Install Color Cartridge" command before the actual physical insertion of an ink cartridge. Once this has been done, pick up the ink cartridge you'll be installing into your Lexmark Z22 printer. Inspect it for any noticeable defects that may prevent it from properly working with your Lexmark Z22 printer. If you do discover a defect, place it back into its original packaging for a possible return.

3
Remove the strip of tape that protects the ink cartridge. When taking off this tape, do it carefully and avoid touching the exposed copper area located on the rear of the ink cartridge. If you attempt to use the ink cartridge without removing the tape, it will cause your Lexmark Z22 printer to stop working properly.
-
4
Place the ink cartridge into your Lexmark Z22 printer by inserting it into the correct cartridge carrier. You'll know that it has been correctly inserted when you hear a clicking noise. Repeat this process for each ink cartridge that needs to be installed into the printer. Close the Lexmark Z22 printer cover when you're finished.
-
5
Align your newly installed ink cartridge by printing test pages. These tests will guarantee that the entire installation process has been done the right way. After installing your ink cartridges, the Lexmark Z22 will automatically ask that you test the printer. Within a few minutes of testing, you'll be able to determine if the ink cartridges are properly functioning with your printer.
