A link, or hyperlink, is a way to refer to a web address of another web page, picture, movie or other resource on the Internet. One of the greatest things about the Web today is the ability to create content which refers to related or reference information on the same or similar topics and take the user there. In order to do this, the web author must link related words from the primary page to the desired content. There are two primary means to link text to another page: Via text edit of the HTML code that comprises the web page for the link, or adding the link through a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) HTML editor.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Text editor or web authoring tool
  1. Step 1

Open the desired web page to add the link in either a text or web editor. Current word processing programs for both Windows and Mac computers now allow authors to embed web page links in documents that can be saved as either web pages or documents.

Save the document in web format (.html) and publish to the web. The manual HTML code to create the link is:
    <P>This is a <A HREF="LinkHere">Web Link Test</P>

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a tool for creating websites if new to web authoring. Manual editing is useful but not required to start publishing to the web.
  • Web authoring tools can have unintended consequences if HTML code and javascript are not fully understood.
