Remove store-bought curtains from packaging. Toss them in the dryer and tumble on "delicate" for 10 to 15 minutes. This will eliminate some wrinkling.

Iron curtain panels using a low heat setting. For tougher wrinkles, increase iron to a "steam" setting. If the curtains are insulated, use a towel between iron and curtain panel to protect the insulated lining from melting. This is the most tedious step in hanging any type of curtain; however, it enhances the final result once the curtains are hung.

Adjust panels to desired positions on the curtain rod. The top line of the curtain is intended to stand up and form a straight line across the top, so very little adjustment is needed to achieve this look. If the curtains are made of light, airy fabrics that will be draping on to the floor, place each panel in position and then take bottom of panel and step away from the window. Shake the panel (like putting a top sheet on a mattress) and let it fall. The panel will then drape naturally on to the floor.
