Exercise mats can be very useful when performing yoga, sit-ups or other workouts. Because you work out while on these mats, however, they can get filled with sweat, grease and dirt. Fortunately, exercise mats are meant to get wet due to fluids lost during exercise, which makes cleaning your exercise mats a very simple process. Use the steps listed below and you will be able to clean and disinfect your exercise mats in less than 30 minutes.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Disinfecting spray
  • Towel
  1. Step 1

Shake the mat off to remove any dirt or dust that may be on it.

  2. Step 2

Hold the bottle of disinfecting spray about 2 to 3 feet over the exercise mat.

  3. Step 3

Spray the entire exercise mat with the disinfecting spray. The whole mat should be wet but not soaked with the spray.

  4. Step 4

Use a clean, dry dishtowel or paper towel to wipe off your exercise mat until you have removed most of the moisture. Depending on the size of your exercise mat, you may need two towels to wipe the entire mat.

  5. Step 5

Hang the mat between 20 to 30 minutes to allow the mat to dry. Do this before you roll the mat back up.

Tips & Warnings
  • Wear clean shoes or socks while on the exercise mat. It is recommended to clean your exercise mat after each use.
  • Avoid using bleach on a exercise mat because it may stain the mat. Don't worry about removing stains from your exercise mat. The mat is supposed to get dirty. The most important thing is making sure the mat doesn't have any germs on it that could get you sick or cause you to get an infection.
