Things You'll Need:
- Doormat
- Broom
- Vacuum cleaner
- Paper towels
- Floor wax
- Buffer
-
Step 1
Learn about the specific type of Brazilian hardwood materials that have gone into making your floor, as well as the type of finish applied to the wood. Ask the installer if you do not remember or do not know this information. Certain types of woods and finishes cannot withstand waxes and other chemical treatments.
-
Step 2
Provide your family and guests with a bristled mat outside your front door. This makes it less likely that large chunks of dried mud and other debris will get tracked it and hurt your hardwood floors.
-
Step 3
Sweep or vacuum the area on a regular basis. Keeping dirt off of your Brazilian wood floors avoids scratches and other minor damage to the durable wood.
-
Step 4
Attend to stains and spills as soon as possible. Use a damp paper towel to clean up wet or sticky messes.
-
Step 5
Apply a light floor wax to floors that do not have a urethane finish. Work carefully, as the wax causes the floor to be slippery as well as shiny.
-
Step 6
Rent or borrow a buffer to remove any unsightly marks or to perk up a dull Brazilian hardwood floor. Home-improvement stores often rent buffing machines by the day.
