Tired of your tie flying all over the place? Use a tie pin. Also known as stickpins or tie tacks, a tie pin will hold your tie close to your shirt, preventing you from looking disheveled. Tie pins are often themed, making them a good way to show your love for your company, your political party, or your favorite sports team. Tie pins can be a bit awkward to use at first but you'll get the hang of it.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tie
  • Tie pin
  1. Step 1

Look at your tie pin. It should have two parts: the pin, which will show on your tie, and the base, which has the pin holder at one end and a metal crosspiece on the other. These two ends are held together with a chain.

  2. Step 2

Start the process with your shirt and tie already on.

  3. Step 3

Unbutton a button on your shirt. This button should be near the middle of your tie or slightly lower.

  4. Step 4

Thread the metal crosspiece on the end of the tie pin base's chain through the button hole.

  5. Step 5

Button the button. You should now have the base hanging out of the button hole.

  6. Step 6

Insert the pin through both the front and back of the tie and into the pin holder. Make sure to place the pin at the level of the button or else the chain may break. Pull down slightly on the tie before you place the pin so the tie doesn't arc outward. Adjust the pin if it's crooked.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be aware that your tie pin may leave a hole in your tie.
