How to Remove Internet Explorer 8 in Windows XP
If you're running Windows XP, you may have received an update that includes the installation of Internet Explorer 8 (IE8). While it is possible to decline the installation, what if you installed it and then decided you didn't like it? Microsoft enables users to remove the program and revert to a previously installed version of Internet Explorer.
Instructions

1
Go to the Start menu and click "Control Panel." Click "Add or Remove Programs."
-
2
Scroll down to "Windows Internet Explorer 8" in the list of "Currently installed programs" (it may read "Windows Internet Explorer 8 Release Candidate 1"). Select it, and click "Remove."
-
-
3
Click "Next" in the Windows Internet Explorer 8 Removal Wizard that pops up. The wizard will do most of the work. If you get a warning stating that the Update for Windows Internet Explorer 8 was installed on your computer after Internet Explorer 8, and asking if you want to continue, click "Yes."
-
4
Click "Finish" in the dialogue box that states you need to click "Finish" to restart your computer and complete the uninstall.
-
5
Open Internet Explorer after the computer has restarted. Click "Help" and "About Internet Explorer." This will tell you what version you are running. It should show 6 or 7, whichever version was installed on your system prior to IE8.

Tips & Warnings
If Windows Internet Explorer 8 does not show up in your computer's list of currently installed programs, Microsoft offers an alternate, if slightly more advanced, method. See "Resources" for link.
In the event the removal of IE8 does not leave you with a functioning previous version of IE, it is good idea to have another Internet browser installed on your computer to enable you to access the Internet to troubleshoot or download a functioning version. See "Resources" for links to Mozilla Firefox and Opera, two alternate browsers.
