A mandolin slicer is a hand-operated kitchen tool that slices, dices and juliennes vegetables with little to no effort from you.
Some mandolin slicers are hand held while others set firmly on the counter by using legs. However they are made, they all perform the same function.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mandolin slicer
  • Vegetables
  1. Step 1

Position the vegetable. Mandolin slicers are equipped with a guard. The guard has spikes that are inserted into the vegetable so that you have a firm grasp while slicing.

  2. Step 2

Choose a blade. Commonly, the mandolin slicer will come with a series of blades, all of which slice differently. Choose the appropriate blade according to the job you wish to do.

  3. Step 3

Adjust the blade. Adjust the thickness of the slices. The blade adjuster is usually found on the underside of the slicer. The lower the blade, the thicker the slices will be.

  4. Step 4

Slice. Move the vegetable up and down the mandolin slicer to produce uniform slices in a matter of seconds.

  5. Step 5

Clean. In effort to prevent the blades from becoming corroded, thoroughly wash the slicer after each use. Using warm, soapy water, clean blades in a downward motion to prevent cutting your finger.

Tips & Warnings
  • Experiment with the thickness variations before slicing your desired vegetables.
  • Mandolin blades are extremely sharp. Always use the food guard when slicing.
