Instructions

    • 1

Shut down the laptop. Close the laptop and unplug any attached cables, including the power cable. Eject any PC cards that may be installed.

    • 2

Turn the laptop over. Locate the battery latch near the right edge of the computer and slide the latch to the right. Remove the battery and return the laptop to upright position. Open the laptop.

    • 3

Unfold the paper clip. Insert the point of the paper clip into the keyboard bezel release hole located on the right side of the laptop, above the keyboard. Push down and slide left to release the keyboard bezel; lift the keyboard bezel.

    • 4

Remove the four screws located at the top of the keyboard assembly. Lift the top edge of the keyboard assembly and slide backwards; this will release the keyboard assembly from the palmrest. Raise the keyboard to a position perpendicular with the computer and disconnect the keyboard cable from the system board. Remove the keyboard.

    • 5

Release the old memory module by spreading apart the tabs located on the memory module socket (located above the trackpad). Remove the old memory module and set aside.

    • 6

Position the new memory module at a 45-degree angle to the memory module socket. Slide the module into the socket and press down on it until you feel a click.

    • 7

Reinstall the keyboard assembly, keyboard bezel and battery (refer to the steps above, if necessary). Plug in the power cable and any disconnected peripherals; reinsert PC cards. The laptop is now ready for use.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can order memory for your Dell Latitude LS 400 directly from the manufacturer (see Resources below).

  • Periodically discharge static electricity by touching one of the metal surfaces on the back of your computer. This will help prevent damage to the delicate components inside your computer. Do not force the memory module closed; if it does not snap into place, try re-seating the module. If the laptop does not start properly after installation, re-seat the memory module.
