How to Make an Accordion Book for Children

Accordion books are fun and simple to make, even with the youngest of kids. The books can stand up on their own and can be viewed in their entirety as they stand displayed on a tabletop. They're also a great art and writing project to do with kids who like to make up stories, draw and use glue and scissors.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut your grocery bag in half the long way. Cut off the bottom and side portions. Now you have two long strips. Each one can be made into an accordion book.

    • 2

Fold the strip in half. Take top layer of paper and fold it back to the edge and crease.

    • 3

Flip the paper over and fold the bottom half back to the edge and crease.

    • 4

Flip the paper over again, fold the top page back and crease again.

    • 5

Apply glue to the top page, and stick the glued side almost to the corner of the cereal box. Allow to dry. Cut the cereal box to the shape of the glued page to form a cover for the book.

    • 6

Use this finished cover as a template to cut and glue another cereal box cover for the last page of the book. The book interior is now ready to be created. The child can glue pieces of white paper on the cover and inside each page, then write and illustrate his story from cover to cover.
