Enter the BIOS of a Gateway Computer

The BIOS is usually stored on a ROM chip on the motherboard. The BIOS stores the hardware setup information for the computer. Without the BIOS you would have to reconfigure your hardware every time you booted up the computer.

Gateway has made entering the BIOS very simple, but like every manufacturer there is no one way to do it. It depends on the computer being a laptop or desktop, and the motherboard that the computer has installed.

Instructions

Gateway c667c desktop

Step 1

Turn on your computer. If your computer is already on, then reboot it. You need to see the initial display screen to get into the BIOS.
Step 2

Press the F2 key immediately in one second intervals when you see the initial screen displaying the BIOS provider information. This particular model is an exception because it uses the PhoenixBIOS.
Step 3

Enter the password if required. When finished in the BIOS be sure to save your changes. For changes to take place, you must reboot the computer.

All Other Gateway Desktops

Step 1

Turn on your computer. If your computer is already on, then reboot it. You need to see the initial display screen to get into the BIOS.
Step 2

Press the F1 key immediately in one second intervals when you see the initial screen displaying the BIOS provider information. The majority of Gateway computers use the F1 key. If, for some reason this does not work, then use the F2. All of Gateway's desktops use the F1 or F2 keys.
Step 3

Enter the password if required. When finished in the BIOS be sure to save your changes. For changes to take place, you must reboot the computer.

Solo, Liberty, Handbook 486 and Handbook 286 Notebooks

Step 1

Press the Fn+ESC keys simultaneously. This can be done at anytime, while in MS-DOS mode or while in Windows.
Step 2

Enter a password if required. Some computers have a password to get into the BIOS. Normally these are set by the user. Unless you have set the BIOS password, you will not need to worry about this step.
Step 3

Save your changes when you are finished in the BIOS. For changes to take place, you must reboot the computer.

ColorBook and ColorBook 2 Notebooks

Step 1

Vista Menu, but same selection since Windows95

Reboot the computer. As soon as the computer reboots, rapidly and repeatedly strike the E8 key. If the Windows screen appears then you need to start over and try again. If you are successful, the Advanced Boot Options menu will pop up.
Step 2

Select Safe mode with the command prompt. This will bring you to the c: prompt.
Step 3

Press Ctrl+Alt+S simultaneously. This will get you to the BIOS.
Step 4

Enter a password if required. Some computers have a password to get into the BIOS. Normally these are set by the user. Unless you have set the BIOS password, you will not need to worry about this step.

Nomad Notebook

Step 1

Turn on your computer. If your computer is already on, then reboot it. You need to see the initial display screen to get into the BIOS.
Step 2

Press the Ctrl+Alt+Esc keys simultaneously when you see the initial screen displaying the BIOS provider information.
Step 3

Enter the password if required. When finished in the BIOS be sure to save your changes. For changes to take place, you must reboot the computer.
