How Do I Use an iPod?

Apple's collection of iPods offer an easy and convenient way to store and play MP3 songs, movies, pictures and even games. Unless you know how to use the product, it may not serve much more use than a coaster. Luckily, the iPod is easy to figure out, and within a few uses of the device, you will have no problems loading content, listening and charging your device.

Instructions

    • 1

Install the latest version of Apple iTunes to your Windows or Mac computer. Apple iTunes plays music and video on your computer and serves as the connection between your music and the iPod.

    • 2

Import all of your music and photos into iTunes. The program should automatically import files from the "My Music" folder, but other files can be simply clicked and dragged into the program.

    • 3

Plug your iPod in through your computer's USB connection using the cable that came standard with the iPod. Your computer, along with iTunes, should automatically detect and install the iPod drivers, but if not, use the installation CD provided.

    • 4

Use the USB connection also as a charge station for your iPod. A separate plug-in charger is also sold, but the USB charger will charge and update your iPod at the same time. Updating is also known as "synchronization" and happens every time your iPod is plugged in.

    • 5

Press the "Play" button on the iPod to power it on. The main screen will give you different options including music, video, games and options.

    • 6

Use the click wheel to navigate through different menus. Gently guide your thumb in a clockwise motion in order to scroll through the menus. Press the center button to make your selection, and press up, down, left and right in order to navigate through the menu.

    • 7

Adjust the volume using the click wheel, and advance through tracks by using the forward and reverse buttons. Use the play/pause buttons to play and pause songs, or hold down the button to power down your iPod.

    • 8

Use the lock button so that no songs are accidentally started on the iPod when it is not in use. It clicks when it is locked and needs to be clicked back in order for the iPod to be played.
