How to Clean a Gas Stove
Cleaning your gas stove will not only make it look better, but will make it more sanitary. Clogged burners are inefficient and may stop working. Doing a thorough cleaning of your gas stove will ensure that this does not happen. The directions below are for a stove that does not have sealed burners. If your stove has sealed burners, you will need to skip Steps 4 through 8. Does this Spark an idea?

- Mild detergent
- Vinegar
- Baking soda
- Several wash cloths
- Soft scrub brush

Turn off the all burners on the stove and let it cool.

Wipe off the outside of the stove using warm, soapy water or spray glass cleaner. Use a clean cloth to rinse it before drying it with a soft cloth.

Remove the burner grates and reflector drip pans or burner bowls. Soak them in a solution of 1 gallon of warm water and 1 cup white vinegar for 30 minutes.

Lift the range top and remove the burners. Burners can usually be removed by lifting them and pulling straight out. However, you should check with the owner's manual for directions.

Soak the burners in hot, soapy water.

Clean the area underneath the burners using a cloth and warm, soapy water. A paste of baking soda and water can be used to remove any tough stains.

Remove the burners from the water and inspect them. Using a cloth or brush to do any necessary additional cleaning. Inspect the burner holes and use a metal straight pin to remove anything that is clogging them. Do not use wooden sticks that can get stuck in the holes or break off.

Rinse the burners in hot water. Dry them by placing them upside down in an 300 degree oven for 30 minutes. Make sure they are dry before replacing.

Remove the burner grates and drip pans from the water. Use a non-scratch pad and baking soda to remove any stubborn stains. Rinse and dry before replacing.

Make sure the pilot light is lit when you are replacing the items on the stove.
