Triluma cream has been approved by the FDA to treat melasma, a skin condition that causes dark brown spots on the face, particularly in women. According to Galderma, the manufacturer of Triluma, over 6 million women in the United States have melasma. Triluma contains lightening agents that fade dark spots and has been proven to demonstrate results in eight weeks.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash your face with a non-medicated cleanser made for sensitive skin and pat your face dry with a towel. Make sure your face is dry before moving on to Step 2.

    • 2

Open your tube of Triluma and dispense a small, pea-sized drop of the ointment onto your fingers.

    • 3

Apply the ointment only to the affected areas on your face, and rub gently with your fingers until the product is absorbed. Once Triluma is fully absorbed, it should be completely invisible. You do not need to cover your entire face if your melasma is only in certain areas. Keep the product away from your eyes and nostrils.

    • 4

Apply Triluma only once per day, ideally 30 minutes before you go to bed to allow the product to fully dry.

    • 5

Do not add any additional products to your face after applying Triluma. This may decrease the effectiveness of the medication.

    • 6

Apply a moisturizer or sunscreen with a SPF 30 or greater, the next morning. Triluma can make your skin more sensitive to UV light, so you should always wear sunscreen when you are outside. After applying your moisturizer, feel free to use your normal cosmetics.

Tips & Warnings

  • Studies have shown that Triluma can significantly lighten melasma in four to eight weeks. It may take longer for some women, depending on the severity of your melasma. Keep using Triluma until your doctor tells you otherwise.

  • Do not use Triluma more than once a day or use more than a pea-sized amount. Using more will not increase the product's effectiveness and will likely lead to skin irritation. If your skin gets very irritated while using Triluma, stop applying the product and see your doctor or dermatologist.
