Hang Tulle & Lights
Hang Tulle & Lights

Tulle and lights are an inexpensive way to decorate a room or hall for a special event. There are two basic ways to decorate with tulle and lights. You can use any color Christmas lights, which allows you to work within a variety of decorating themes. You can also use decorative wall sconces or hanging lanterns. Hanging the tulle with wall sconces can also enable you to use already existing lights instead of purchasing your own.

Things You'll Need:

How to Hang Tulle and Lights

  1. Step 1

Lay the tulle out on the floor so that it is flat.

  2. Step 2

Lay the string of Christmas lights on top of the tulle going down the middle the length of the tulle. Lay down enough lights to run the whole length of the tulle.

  3. Step 3

Wrap the tulle around the strand of Christmas lights. Secure the material with twist ties so that the tulle doesn't unfold while you are trying to hang it.

  4. Step 4

Hang the tulle starting near an outlet so you can plug in the lights. When you hang the tulle, you want to drape it so it is attached to the wall every two to three feet. This will prevent the lights from weighing down the tulle. The best way to attach the tulle to the wall is using the peel and stick wall hooks. Be sure to buy the ones, which are easy to remove so you don't damage the wall.

  5. Step 5

Remove all the twist ties and fluff up the tulle, once the tulle is attached to the wall. Make sure the lights stay inside the tulle.

  6. Hanging with Variety

  7. Step 1

Hang your decorative lights/lanterns on the wall first. You can also use pre-existing wall sconces to hang to tulle from depending on the space you are decorating.

  8. Step 2

Tie the end of the tulle to the first light. You'll want to tie the tulle at the base of the light near the wall if possible.

  9. Step 3

Loosely drape the fabric till you reach the second light.

  10. Step 4

Wrap the tulle once around the base of the light, and then continue draping it to the next light. If the tulle doesn't stay near the base and hang the way you want it to, use some clear double-sided tape to hold it in place.

  11. Step 5

Continue doing the same processuntil all the tulle is hung. When you get to the last light, tie the tulle off just like you did at the first light, and trim an extra tulle you have at the end.

Tips & Warnings
  • Before hanging the tulle and lights, check with the hall manager to make sure you are allowed. Some halls have specific rules regarding hanging things on the walls.
  • Be careful when hanging the tulle with Christmas lights to hang them in a straight line across the wall. It may be helpful to have someone with you to guide you.
