Use Revolution to Kill Mites in Dogs

Revolution is a popular flea, tick and heartworm prevention product that is also approved for the treatment of ear mites in dogs. Ear mites are easily spread among all breeds of dogs and can lead to ear infections if not treated. Selamectin, the medicine in Revolution, is applied topically and enters the bloodstream to kill a variety of parasites and will prevent them from returning as long as it is used regularly.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase the correct Revolution product. Revolution for dogs comes in six different boxes based on the formula of 2.7 mg for every pound of your dog's weight. For dogs under five pounds, purchase the mauve box with 15 mg of medication per application tube. For dogs 5.1 to 10 pounds, purchase the purple box with 30 mg per tube. For dogs 10.1 to 20 pounds, purchase the brown box with 60 mg per tube. For dogs 20.1 to 40 pounds, purchase the red box with 120 mg per tube. For dogs 40.1 to 85 pounds, purchase the teal box with 240 mg per tube. Finally, for dogs greater than 85 pounds, purchase the plum box and use the recommended combination of tubes based on his weight.

    • 2

Remove one individual Revolution applicator from the box and press down on the applicator's cap until you hear a click. Remove the cap off the tube.

    • 3

Grasp your dog and place the applicator directly against the dog's skin on the back of his neck. If your dog has a lot of fur, part the fur so the medication is applied directly to the skin and not on top of the dog's coat.

    • 4

Make sure all the medication has been emptied from the tube and wash your hands if any of the product got onto your skin.

    • 5

Keep your dog dry for two hours after applying Revolution. Once two hours has passed, feel free to bathe your dog or let him go swimming.

    • 6

Re-apply a new dose of Revolution every month to provide continuous protection against ear mites.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not put Revolution directly into your dog's ear. The product should only be applied to the skin on the back of your dog's neck. If your dog starts vomiting or has any other digestive problems after you apply Revolution, see your veterinarian.
