Adding kitty ears to a hoodie can be a cute and funky way to spruce up your wardrobe. Not only will they make your hoodie unique, they are also a fun, playful and quirky addition to any closet. You can try many different fabrics -- in similar or contrasting colors, depending on your style and mood. The hoodie may also double as a thrifty Halloween costume. With a little patience and creativity, you will be able to make kitty ears for your hoodie in no time.

Assembling the Ears

Determine what material you would like to use for your ears. Some materials to consider would be jersey or felt.

Fold fabric in half and draw two triangles, with sides measuring 3 inches. Pin in place. These will be the kitty ears.

Cut triangles out, leaving a half a centimeter seam allowance. You should now have four triangles.

Separate the triangles into two pairs.

Right sides together, sew two sides of the triangles together using a straight stitch. Make sure you leave half a centimeter seam allowance. Sew a zig zag stitch beside the seam you have just sewn to prevent fraying. Turn inside out. Repeat for other ear.

Attaching the Ears

On the hood of your hoodie, mark where you would like to place the ears.

Using your ruler, mark small lines where the ears will be inserted with chalk. Make these lines as wide as the ears.

Carefully cut slits with scissors.

Insert ears and hand sew into place using a whip stitch.

Things You'll Need:

  • Scissors
  • Fabric
  • Thread
  • Stuffing
  • Sewing Machine
  • Pins
  • Hoodie
  • Chalk
  • Ruler
  • Needle

Tip

You can also add stuffing into the ears before attaching it to your hoodie for a more costume-like effect. After stuffing, sew the bottom of the ears with a straight stitch before attaching the ears to the hood.

You can also add an another colour to the ears by cutting out a smaller triangle that can be affixed to the larger triangle by sewing or using fabric glue. Felt is a good choice for this as it does not fray.
