Instructions

    • 1

Measure the frame from edge to edge. Cut the plywood to the same size as your frame. Alternately, if you buy the plywood from a major home improvement store, you can have store employees cut it for free or for a low cost.

    • 2

Apply wood finish of your choice to the plywood and let it dry. Though you'll be mounting corks on the plywood, some of the background will still show through.

    • 3

Glue the plywood to the frame. You now have a framed board on which you can mount your wine cork collection.

    • 4

Lay out your corks on the board, arranging them into a design. A classic approach to laying out wine corks is to place two vertical corks next to two horizontal corks, which gives a uniform appearance to your framed corks. You can experiment with other designs, especially if you don't mind if more of the background shows through.

    • 5

Sand the edges of the corks around the edge if the space is too narrow to fit them in. You can also sand the edges of other corks to make them fit into the design better. Be sure not to sand off the wording or design on the corks that you want to display.

    • 6

Lift up one cork at a time and apply a layer of glue to it. Set it down in its space on the board. Let it dry and move to the next cork.

    • 7

Add picture-hanging hardware of your choice if you want to hang your framed corks on the wall.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use thin plywood to ensure that your framed cork art isn't too bulky. For the most pleasing effect, make sure the frame you choose is at least as deep as the width of a cork.
