How to Create Foam Wall Decorations

Foam wall decorations are a great way to add some cheer to a room. This is especially true for children's rooms. By creating your own foam wall decorations, you can save money as well as customize the decorations to meet your child's favorite animals, toys or even cars. It can become a family project and you can get input from your kids on what decorations they might like best. Some of the easiest wall decorations are teddy bears and balloons, and the patterns use simple circles and ovals to complete.

Instructions

    • 1

Trace the patterns out for each foam decoration. For the teddy bear, trace a circle 5 inches in diameter for the head and an 8-inch-diameter circle for the body. For the paws, trace out four small 2-inch-diameter circles. Trace out the mouth and ears with 2-inch-diameter circles, and the nose and eyes with 1-inch-diameter circles.

    • 2

Trace the balloons with circles 3 and 8 inches in diameter. Trace three small triangles for the base of the balloon.

    • 3

Cut out the foam with a pair of scissors. Start at the corner of the foam and work inwards. If you have trouble cutting with the scissors, use an Exacto knife, especially on the smaller items like the paws and the triangles.

    • 4

Glue the teddy bear decorations together. Place the body piece down on a sheet of newspaper, and glue the base of the head to the top of the body. Glue the paws on around the body. Glue the mouth on the center of the head, and add the nose and eyes. Glue the ears onto the top of the head.

    • 5

Glue the triangle shapes to the base of each balloon. Glue the string of yarn to the back of each balloon.

    • 6

Glue the foam wall directions directly on the wall if you have wall paper that you don't mind damaging. If you want to minimize the damage, you can use double-stick tape or small nails to hang the balloons and teddy bear on the wall.

Tips & Warnings

  • Ask your kids what their favorite animal is and make a foam decoration for them after you've mastered the basic process.
