Step 1
Visit the Yahoo! Messenger download site. Click on the yellow button that says "Download Now." This will take you to another page with a few instructions and another button.

Click on the yellow button that says "Download Now" again. This will open up a file download window. Click on "Run." This will start your download.

Click "Run" again on the second window that pops up when the download is finished.

Click "continue" on the permission window that will pop up if you are using Windows Vista. This will allow the program to begin installation.

Choose whether you want to do a typical or custom install. The typical install is recommended for the average user.

Select whether or not you want to make Yahoo! your homepage or whether or not you want to make Yahoo! your default search engine by checking or unchecking the options on the Welcome to Yahoo! Messenger window. Click on "next."

Step 7
Read through the Privacy Policy and License Agreement and Terms, and check the box next to "Yes, I accept the License Agreement terms and Privacy Policy above, along with the Yahoo! Terms of Service." Click on "next."

Step 8
Click "Install." Yahoo! Instant Messenger will start the installation.
