Go green with gift giving and wrap a gift bag. It's quicker and easier than finding and wrapping a box, doesn't need any expensive wrapping paper, and it can be reused many times. Almost every store carries some type of gift bag and supplies. However, it does take some thought to wrap and present properly.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Gift
  • Gift bag
  • Tissue paper
  • Piece of curling ribbon
  1. Step 1

Choose a gift bag with ample room for your gift. You can always pad the extra room with tissue paper if needed. It's best if the bag matches the basic contours of your gift. For example, a tall, narrow bag for holding a wine bottle.

  2. Step 2

Select tissue paper that complements or contrasts the color or design of your bag. If you can afford it, two or three shades of tissue paper, or adding some tissue paper with a design, can add color and interest to your gift.

  3. Step 3

Wrap the gift itself in one or two pieces of tissue paper to pad it if it's breakable. Lay another piece of tissue paper flat on a table or floor. If you're using more than one color tissue paper, place one or more pieces on top of it, but turn the papers at slight angles to each other so their corners end up in different spots.

  4. Step 4

Place your gift in the center of the tissue paper. Put your hands underneath the paper and bring it up around the gift. Rest your gift at the bottom of the gift bag with the tops of the tissue paper corners sticking out. Arrange the corners to your liking.

  5. Step 5

Lay your card, if you have one, inside the bag on top of the gift. Cut a piece of curling ribbon, at least 1 foot long, and use it to tie the handles together with a bow to keep the bag closed, especially if your gift is breakable. Curl the ends of the ribbon with the edge of open scissors.

Tips & Warnings
  • Purchase reusable shopping bags to use for gift bags. Make your own gift bag by decorating a brown shopping bag with paint, rubber stamps or anything else you can think of.
  • If you put a sticky bow on your gift bag, it may damage the bag if removed and prevent it from being reused.
