How to Get Rid of Red Wine Stains

Red wine is commonly served to accompany a meal and as a party drink. Unfortunately, serving red wine means that there is a chance that the contents of the glass will end up spilled on the carpet, upholstery or other fabric. A red wine stain does not have to ruin a party. By carefully following eight steps, you can get rid of red wine stains.

Things You'll Need

• 2 clean rags
• Clean sponge
• Cold water
• Mild detergent
• White vinegar

Instructions

1. Gently blot a fresh stain with a clean rag.

2. Dampen a clean sponge with water.

3. Pour a small amount of mild detergent like Woolite onto the damp sponge.

4. Use the damp sponge to blot the stain.

5. Mix a solution of one part white vinegar and two parts water.

6. Use an eye dropper to drop small amounts of the vinegar water solution on any remaining stain.

7. Rinse the entire area with cold water.

8. Use a clean rag to gently dry the area.

Tips & Warnings

• When blotting the fresh stain, use only enough pressure to soak up any remaining liquid. Do not press the stain further into the fabric, carpet or upholstery. Test an inconspicuous area of the stained fabric, carpet or upholstery to make sure that the mild detergent and vinegar solution do not damage the color of the fabric.
