How to Calculate Cubic Meters

Finding cubic meters is the same thing as finding the volume of an item, measured in meters. Take a few measurements, do a simple calculation, and you have your answer. Just grab your metric ruler---using one in inches and feet will work but requires different conversions---and let's get started.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Metric ruler
  1. Step 1
    Height
     
    Height

    Measure the height of your object.

  2. Step 2
    Length
     
    Length

    Measure the length.

  3. Step 3
    Width
     
    Width

    Measure the width.

  4. Step 4

    Convert measurements to meters if they are not already. If measurement was taken in millimeters, divide by 1,000. If by centimeters, divide by 100.

  5. Step 5

    Multiply the three measurements. The answer is given in cubic meters.

Tips & Warnings
  • If all you have is a standard ruler, convert feet to meters by multiplying the measurement in feet by 0.3048.
  • If you are looking to put something in a cube, measure the inside height, length and width for an accurate answer.
