Step 1
Press the BlackBerry menu button. This is the button on the left side next to the green "call" button that has seven small dots on it in the shape of a BlackBerry. Pressing this button will bring up an icon menu that includes settings and applications.
-
Step 2
Scroll over to the media icon with your trackball and click it once to open the media center application. There will be a ringtone icon. Click this icon to see a list of automatically available tones which come standard on your phone. You can preview these tones with a single click, or set them by pressing the BlackBerry menu button and pressing "Set as Ringtone."
-
Step 3
Customize your contact tones. To set custom ringtones for certain people on your contact list, go to your address book on your phone and click on the listing of the person you want to have a specific ringtone. You can only do this for one contact at a time. Select the "edit" function by pressing the BlackBerry menu button and then press "Add Custom Ringtone." Then select the tone from the list, and your custom tone settings will be saved.
-
Step 4
Create personal ringtones. If you are not satisfied with the standard ringtones on your BlackBerry 8830, you can use any song or sound effect that you have saved on your BlackBerry's hard drive or an SD card as a ringtone. Simply enter the media center, pull up the menu, and then click on the "Set as Ringtone" option to make something from your personal media collection into a ringtone.
