How to Build a Washer Game Board

When looking for a game that can be played both indoors and outdoors, washer toss games make a great option. If you have some mechanical ability, you can create your own washer board at home instead of paying high prices at stores and on websites like Amazon.com. This version of the washer toss game is similar to the popular tailgate game known as cornhole, which is usually played with beanbags. This game is played with washers instead and has a smaller target.

Things You'll Need

• 2-by-4 foot sheet of plywood
• Tape measure
• Wood glue
• Jigsaw
• Four bricks (or blocks)
• Paint (optional)
• Industrial indoor/outdoor rug (optional)

Instructions

1. Place the piece of plywood on the floor in front of you so that the width is 2 feet and the length is 4 feet.

2. Measure 2 feet from the top of the plywood and 1 foot from the side of the plywood. Mark this intersection with an "x" on the plywood. This is where you will cut your hole.

3. Trace a circle using your "x" as the center of the circle. Draw the circle so that it has a radius of 4 inches. Cut the hole out of the plywood using the jigsaw.

4. Paint the plywood with any design that you wish. Keep in mind that the paint will chip during the play of the washer toss game, so intricate designs are not the best choice.

5. Place two piles of bricks in your playing area to prop the top of the washer board up against. The top is the side with the hole. Space these bricks so they are spaced properly for the top two corners of the washer board to rest against. This will elevate the washer board so it is at an angle for tossing the washers at the target.

Tips & Warnings

• Instead of painting the washer board, you can also cover it with an indoor/outdoor industrial rug cut to fit the board with the hole cut out. This will change the game slightly as the washers will not slide as easily. It will limit the wear and tear on the plywood itself though.

• If the bricks are too heavy to carry around with you, they can be replaced with lighter wooden blocks to make the game more portable.
