Display attractive items that are also practical on your bathroom vanity

Most bathrooms are smaller spaces that have to hold a variety of items for a multitude of purposes including grooming and primping. Decorate your bathroom vanity in a way that enhances the decor but allows the space to function the way you need it to. Your vanity should include small attractive items as well as decorative storage solutions that all fall into the same style, theme or color scheme. Choose items that relate to the other decorations in the bathroom including the towels, wall decor and other counter items. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Position a chair, bench or stool under the vanity for doing your makeup, hair or for performing other grooming tasks. Wicker, wood or fabrics in the stool should mimic other areas of the bathroom, such as counter accessories, towels or artwork.

    • 2

Place decorative storage containers on the vanity counter if the items cannot be stored elsewhere. For example, a contemporary bathroom might include glass and stainless steel jars that hold cotton balls or other items you frequently use. Store your items in a basket or container behind a door, on a shelf or under the sink if possible.

    • 3

Put a small bud vase, houseplant, candle arrangement or perfume bottle collection on the vanity. Use smaller items for a small vanity, or bulkier items for an expansive vanity for balance.

    • 4

Arrange the decorative accessories in a way that is visually interesting yet doesn't take up the entire vanity. The space should be easily accessible and useful. For example, a small vase or plant could sit to one side of the vanity, especially in a corner with a wall to one side, and a small collection of decorative perfume bottles can sit on the other side.

Tips & Warnings

  • Choose items that are decorative and practical if possible, such as a small basket or porcelain container that can hold smaller cosmetics or hair accessories.

  • Keeping your vanity decorations to a minimum allows the decorations to stand out and makes it easier to move the items when it's time to clean the countertops.

  • Avoid adding too much to the countertop or it will look cluttered, untidy and chaotic.
