Your new house or apartment has beautiful new vinyl replacement windows, and you're delighted with the energy efficiency and clean view they give: until you attempt to operate them. A completely different animal than old double hung windows, there's a few tricks to operating vinyl replacement windows that you can master in minutes. Soon you'll be unlocking, safety locking and tilting in your windows like a pro.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Release the master locks on your vinyl replacement window by turning the latches on the top of the lower pane counterclockwise. You'll hear the lock click as it disengages; your window can now be raised or lowered from the top to let in air.

  2. Step 2

Keep the window open two inches, press both of the triangle buttons, located on the outside top of the bottom pane, inward towards each other and pull the window towards your body. It will tilt in, so you can clean easily.

  3. Step 3

Lower the top pane two inches, and you will see two triangle buttons on the top of the frame. Press these towards each other and tug the window towards your body. You now have both windows tilted inside the room, and can clean both sides of each pane.

  4. Step 4

Close the windows so they're in their normal position, but don't lock them.

  5. Step 5

Locate the safety catch on the inside of the lower top frame. It looks like a little built in ladder.

  6. Step 6

Slide the safety catch up with your thumb and release. A small triangle will pop out, making it impossible to open the window more than three inches. This will allow you to leave the window open when your asleep or away from home without the threat of intruders using it for entry.
