Things You'll Need:
- Patience
- Snacks
- Creativity

Step 1
The first aspect of this task is to pick the right time of day. During lunchtime, for example, would not be a good idea. And, of course, during naptime is similarly bad. Kids who are well-fed and well-rested will at least give you a chance for a nice shopping experience.

Step 2
Kids often are bored when we run errands. Giving them something to do is the key. First option is a snack: a bag of Cheerios, little crackers, or fruit snacks. Bring hand sanitizer for them to use!
-
Step 3
The next option is a job to help you. Kids love feeling useful and that they are helping mommy or daddy. Depending on the age of your child, you can tailor this to their abilities. Give them a list of what you are buying and have them check off items as you find them. Tell them you are looking for a red box and on what shelf. They will "help" you find it! Tell them the name of the product, if they can recognize words. Or play I-spy with them for what you see in the store. Another fun game, if you have time to prep, is to cut out part of the box with the name of what it is (cut "Cheerios" off the box). Set aside. When you have gathered a lot of item names, organize and when you go shopping, grab some of what you'll be buying and staple together or put in an envelope. Your child can pull out what you're buying and match it to the box!
