Things You'll Need:
- Toilet
- Wrench
- Wax ring
- Caulking
-
Step 1
Turn off the water to the toilet. It is the knob on the pipe running from the tank to the wall.
-
Step 2
Flush the toilet. After flushing, the tank will not fill up with water again, but the bowl will still have some water in it, so the way i do it is to get a large pot of water and pour it into the bowl quickly. This should suck most of the remaining water down the hole.
-
Step 3
Now remove the bolt covers and then take out the bolts on either side of the base. Also unscrew the water connection that you turned off earlier. Be aware that some water will come out, so it is a good idea to have a towel to soak it up.
-
Step 4
You should now be able to remove the old toilet. Pull it off and set it out of the way.
-
Step 5
Replace your wax ring by taking out the old one and disposing of it properly (you may want to wear gloves, those things can be pretty nasty)
Then put the new one in where the old one sat. Make sure it is properly seated. -
Step 6
Note- having two people greatly helps with this part.
Carefully set your new toilet in. Make sure you don't damage the wax ring, just let it get seated correctly. -
Step 7
Now make sure the toilet is straight and caulk the edges.
-
Step 8
Reconnect the water hose and turn it on. Check for leaks. And now you have just successfully changed your toilet!
