Things You'll Need:
- Hammer
- Nails
- Wood
-
Step 1
Hold the handle of the hammer as far away from the head as you can with your dominate hand. (Holding the hammer away from the head will give you more leverage allowing you to get more power from less of a swing.)
-
Step 2
Hold the nail with your other hand against the project where you want to nail. (If room permits hold the nail at a slight angle for a stronger hold.)
-
Step 3
Use the face of the hammer and give the nail a couple of light taps being careful not to hit your hand. (Tapping the nail will cause it to stick in the project on its own.)
-
Step 4
Remove your hand from the nail and continue to hit the nail with stronger swings to drive the nail in.(When swinging don't bend your wrist, bend at the elbow using you forearm for strength.)
-
Step 5
As you finish hitting the nail in start to swing softer being careful not to mark up the project. Once the nail is flush with the project you are done.
-
Step 6
If the nail bends or you need to remove it you will use the claw side of the hammer. To remove the nail put it between the claws and start to pry the nail back out. (To prevent damaging the project place a piece of wood between the head and project to pry against.)
