Looking for keyword ideas? Keep reading to learn how to optimize keywords in an article, blog or web content. Keyword selection is vital due to keyword advertising programs like AdWords.

What's the key to earning more money as a web writer? Keywords! Keyword optimization is the trick to earning more money as a web writer. Keyword advertising programs like AdWords use an article's keywords to determine what ads appear beside the article, blog entry or website content. Ad value is determined by keyword bids - a price that an advertiser agrees to pay if an ad is clicked. So the trick to earning more revenue as a web writer is to optimize keywords through good keyword selection, and strong keyword placement throughout the article. The Google AdWords Keyword Tool is a great way to determine what keywords will work well for an article, aiding in keyword optimization of an article.

Instructions

DEVELOP A WRITING PLAN: What are you going to write about? You must first select a theme and general angle for the blog entry, article or web content. The best keyword optimization is done on articles or blog entries that have a flexible "direction;" in other words, you can change the angle of your blog entry or article based on keyword selection.

VISIT THE GOOGLE ADWORDS KEYWORD TOOL WEBSITE: Visit the AdWords Keyword Tool website to begin the keyword optimization process. See the "resources" section below for a link.

    • 3

ENTER A PHRASE OR TOPIC INTO THE KEYWORD GENERATOR: Enter a primary keyword phrase or topic that you plan to write about. Remember, the keywords will largely determine the ads (and the ad value) that appear beside the article of blog when using a keyword advertiser program like Google AdWords. Once the keyword phrase or topic is entered, type in the Captcha box letters and hit the "get keyword ideas" button to generate keywords.

    • 4

GO TO THE "CHOOSE COLUMNS TO DISPLAY" PULL-DOWN MENU and select "Show Estimated Avg. CPC." This will display the average CPC - Cost Per Click - for each keyword suggestion. The higher the CPC for a keyword, the greater the earning potential associated with the keyword.

    • 5

SELECT 2-3 PRIMARY KEYWORDS; SELECT 5-8 SECONDARY KEYWORDS: Go through the list and select 2-3 primary keywords for the article, blog entry or web content. The best keywords have high CPC, high search volume and low or moderate competition. Select 5-8 secondary keywords that can also be used in the article, blog or website content. Write all of these keywords down on a piece of paper, along with the average CPC.

    • 6

WRITE THE ARTICLE, BLOG ENTRY OR WEB CONTENT: After using the Adwords Keyword Tool for keyword optimization, write the article, blog or website content using the primary keywords as the focus, sprinkling in the secondary keywords as well. Do not overdo it; a keyword density should not be more than 2-4% of the article, blog or other website content. Too many instances of a keyword will decrease search engine performance due to penalties associated with "keyword stuffing."

Tips & Warnings

  • Keyword marketing - another term for keyword advertising programs like the Google Adwords program - is important to understand. Learn a bit more about keyword marketing and how it works; this will give the web writer a better understanding of how to use keywords and how to optimize keywords using the Google AdWords Keyword Tool.

  • Keyword placement is vital. Keywords should be placed in the headline, subtitles and ideally, in the first 5 words of a sentence.

  • The Google AdWords Keyword Tool also serves as a keywords analyzer. You can enter your article, blog or website URL and AdWords Keyword generator will pull up the current keywords that appear in your content, along with the CPC, search volume and other data. This is great for keyword optimization of existing blog entries, articles and website content; it's also great for keyword management which may be necessary if your article is not performing as well as you'd hoped.
