Step 1
Fill any cracks and patch any holes or rough spots in your concrete floor using a concrete patch. Follow the directions on the package to ensure that the patch adheres to the concrete.
-
Step 2
Sweep and vacuum the floor to make sure there is not any dust or debris. Make sure this is done thoroughly. Any dust or debris can show up as bumps under the paint.
-
Step 3
Rust Oleum Concrete DegreaserMake sure there is not any oil or grease on the surface. I would recommend using a concrete degreaser such as Rust Oleum Concrete Degreaser. After degreasing the floor, rinse it with clean, warm water. Allow the floor to dry completely before moving on.
-
Step 4
Once the floor has dried, apply a concrete sealer. This will ensure that the concrete does not absorb the paint when it is applied. Make sure that the concrete sealer is for indoor use, not just for driveways. Once again, allow the floor to dry completely before moving on.
-
Step 5
Some paints come combined with primer, however, I find it best to apply primer separate. One thing to remember when buying the primer, is to make sure that the primer is compatible with the sealer you applied. One coat of primer should be all you need to apply.
-
Step 6
When buying your paint, make certain that is concrete compatible. The best way to apply the paint is in thin layers using a roller. Usually three or four layers should be enough. Make sure you allow ample time for the paint to dry between layers.
-
Step 7
Finally, once the last layer of paint has dried, apply two to three more coats of sealer. Use more coats if you want a more glossy look and feel to the floor. Make sure that you keep at least one can of sealer after you have finished the job. If the floor ever gets scratched or needs to be refinished, you can just add a new layer of sealer to make it look new again.
