How to Build a Wood Lattice Fence
If you need a little privacy -- or just want to hide something unsightly like a central air unit -- a lattice fence will do the trick. It's easy to assemble and inexpensive. Gardeners also use this type of fence for pole beans or vines. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 10- 4-foot-by-4-foot posts
- 8- 2-by-4s
- 4-by-8 lattice sheets
- 1-1/2 inch galvanized screws
- 1/2-inch galvanized screws
- Hole diggers
- Screw gun

Fasten one 2-by-4 to the side of one of the 4-by-4 posts, using 1-1/2-inch screws. Make sure the edge of the 2-by-4 is flush with the top of the post. Fasten the other end of the 2-by-4 to another post in the same manner.

Measure 2 feet from the other end of the post. Fasten another 2-by-4 at this point on the post. Measure the other post and fasten a 2-by-4 in the same manner.

Lay the lattice on the 2-by-4s and attach using the 1/2-inch screws.

Dig holes 18 inches deep and 8 feet apart. Set the "fence" post into the holes. Fill in the holes. Add one or two braces or another side fence for support.

Tips & Warnings
This fence can be made smaller by cutting lattice and 2-by-4s to the desired size. Quikrete can be used in holes for added support.
